I spent saturday night in a yurt

on a remote beach accessible only by boat...i've seen yurts before, but this was my first night in one...it was a wonderful sunset...
woke up the next day and hiked several miles of wilderness trail...saw a creek and a glacier...and other things...I took a self-hand operated tram over Grewingk Creek, that was pretty cool... at the end of the hike at the trailhead I got picked up by a charter boat operator and headed off to beautiful Halibut Cove for dining at the Saltry... then I hopped a ride on the Danny J. crossing the bay as twilight serenaded a late August sky... lots of bear sign on the trail but I never caught sight of one... ........ |

i checked my photos and it seems i didn't take any of the yurt...so i looked for an image on the net of the yurt i stayed at and found a photo someone else took and put up...
it looked to be sixteen foot in diameter, had a woodstove in the center and 3 beds... yurt manufacturer... http://www.nomadshelter.com/ if it was for me, i would probably prefer a framed up cabin with rough cut sawmill over the yurt if i was looking to put up a shelter... .... |

My ex-girlfriend and I hiked the exact same trail and self-operated tram in September 2004. Man that place is gorgeous! Alaska is great!
